THE EAST INDIA COMPANY

One of the world’s first great brands, the East India Company, was given its royal charter in 1600. We were asked to help revive and reinvent one of the greatest brands – and ensure that it was relevant to today’s world and known for its positive benefits to trade. The refreshed Company needed a clear brand positioning – an idea based on its past and its future ambition. We developed a simple but powerful idea - “remarkable connections”. We developed a visual style for the Company that united modern and historical elements, contemporary patterns with traditional ones, western design and eastern art.

The first range of products to be sold in the store was to be a range of fine foods – including teas, coffees, biscuits, jams & marmalades and chocolates. We created the detailed packaging for each of these products; including the form of the pack, the type and quality of materials, the patterns and colours, the typographic elements and the naming of ranges.

The brand we created for The East India Company allows it to trade across many fields. We’ve designed it to enable the Company to grow their product portfolio as they discover new merchandise, new partners and new opportunities
