The second Harvey Nichols store in Turkey needed to build on the success of the first, but without simply duplicating its design. Based in the Kent Park shopping centre Ankara, the store was to occupy a vast site on a single floor. A long open store, with low ceilings and peppered with large columns, it had a layout that posed a big challenge.
Our association with Harvey Nichols goes back many years and we created their first Turkish store in Istanbul two years ago. So we understood their brand and we also had a good picture of the Turkish marketplace. A hexagonal treatment was carried over, creating a link back to Istanbul, but also giving us a powerful and flexible graphic element. We used this element to separate areas of the store, creating distinct zones – either through their use in different forms on the floor, or through walls that divided up the space.
It’s too early to talk about the long-term success of the new store, but initial reactions have been impressive, with high footfall and positive comments. Harvey Nichols Ankara looks like it will be the latest success in the company’s portfolio.
